Slide the inside half of the lock away from the door. There may be a Knstall mounting plate underneath the indoor half of the lock. If so, slide it away from the door as well.

Remove the SmarKey tool.

Many door knob and lockset problems can be corrected before they become so serious that the lockset does not work at all. Insert a flathead screwdriver between the latch plate and the door to pry the latch assembly out of the door. Pull the assembly out of the door using your fingers.
