Ankle syndesmosis repair

What is syndesmotic repair? Tensioning handles and a new trocar-tipped drill bit have been added to the implant system. It is available in stainless steel and titanium. Ankle sprains can injure the syndesmosis.

If a damaged syndesmosis is left untreate poor often occur.

The ligaments also can be injured when the ankle is broken. The ankle joint is held in proper alignment by the ends of the tibia and fibula, which wraps around the inner and outer side of the ankle. Ankle Fracture with Syndesmosis Repair Protocol. General Notes: The type of fracture and required fixation may dictate alterations to the general protocol below.

Some patients may not progress as quickly as the protocol allows. The accelerated rehabilitation protocol promotes early weight-bearing resulting in an effective and quick route to return to sport for professional Rugby League players. It may require insertion of a screw between the tibia and fibula.

The INVISIKNOT Ankle Syndesmosis Repair Kit fracture device is indicated to provide fixation as an adjunct to fracture repair hardware during the healing period following an ankle syndesmotic trauma with fracture. An incision was made over the lateral fibula. Dissection was carried down to the fx, which was identified. A wright medicial unilateral EF was use and the fibula was brought out to length and derotated. It was temporarily fixated with 0. K-wire, inspected under fulroscopy, and noted to be anatomically aligned.

These almost always require surgery to repair. This technique is used to stabilize an ankle after injury. It can be used to repair a high ankle sprain, which damages the soft tissue structures between the tibia and fibula and causes these bones to separate. It can also be used to stabilize a fracture of the fibula.

The TightRope system anchors the ends of the tibia and fibula together with a braided polyethylene cor rather than with a rigid surgical screw, to restore the original position of the bones and to allow for proper healing. Following the creation of a complete syndesmotic injury (AITFL, ITFL, PITFL, interosseous membrane) specimens were repaired using one of three randomly assigned repair techniques: (1) one 3. This type of injury is sometimes called a high ankle sprain because it involves the ligaments above the ankle joint. In an ankle syndesmosis injury, at least one of the ligaments connecting the bottom ends of the tibia and fibula bones (the lower leg bones) is sprained.

Arthrodesis of the ankle syndesmosis may also be performed as a salvage procedure in patients with pain, arthritis, and chronic syndesmotic instability. This procedure is indicated when other strategies have failed.

The ZipTight Fixation System for Ankle Syndesmosis is a low profile, knotless suture fixation system featuring ZipLoop Technology. It provides a fixation alternative to rigid stainless steel screws for repairing ankle syndesmosis joint disruptions. I received a Syndesmosis Repair surgery on my right ankle.

I was immobilized in a splint for weeks and got the splint off days ago today. The doctor told me to wear a walking boot, when moving aroun as I am still NWB for 3-more weeks. Some authors advocate removal of screws to restore normal biomechanics of the syndesmosis and improve function.

The theory is that premature weightbearing could cause abnormal ankle motion and result in possible fatigue failure of the screw.
