Lubricate the area between the lever and slider and where the slider contacts the backing plate. Install the lever and slider assembly through the window in the backing. Tighten the mounting bolts to 9-ft.


From under the vehicle, connect the parking brake cables at the equalizer. Most vehicles will never need the parking brake cable replace and those with problems will typically be greater than years old with over 140miles. The first step is to remove the rear (in the case of some Saab vehicles the parking brake is located on the front) wheels to gain access to the brake assembly.


When the brakes are expose the end of the brake cable should be within easy reach. Whether you call it the emergency brake , parking brake or hand brake , they all work about the same way. You press a pedal or pull a lever, and a dedicated set of pads or shoes engage the rear brakes , locking them up for secure parking. Install on cable with countersink towards end and trim cable to desired length.

My car has seen snow exactly ONCE in its life and never salt. I tried forcing lube into the housing. So I went for distructive disassembly. Holy crap that cable was stuck hard! I had to rig a spring compressor backwards to extract the cable and it fought me all the way!


Slowly apply the parking brake and count the number or detent clicks made by the lever. Remove the parking brake pedal assembly and disconnect the cable from the pedal assembly. Peel the carpet back in the truck, pry out the cable grommet in the floor pan and remove the cable from the truck. While the assistant is holding the cable , insert the 4mm retaining pin to release the parking brake cable tension (as shown in Figure below).


Release the parking brake cable tension.
