Victim services

The services are intended to help reduce the trauma associated with crime victimization and to facilitate crisis stabilization and recovery. The formation of the office has laid the groundwork for enforcing victims ’ rights and providing services. OVSRS maintains a comprehensive victim services program and establishes justice practices to ensure crime victims and survivors are afforded the utmost respect in exercising their legal rights.

Specially trained advocates help individuals and families survive the trauma of crime by offering the help and healing they may need. If you or someone you know has been a victim of a crime, help may be available. The agency also funds a network of victim service providers across New York State.

For CVC purposes, organizations or individuals providing billed services to victims or claimants are considered victim service providers. These include a medical, mental health or dental provider, funeral home director, child care provider, landlor crime scene clean-up provider, or an attorney.
